But could the temptation for stealing iPods be so strong that they're behind an increase in the crime rate? Researchers at a public policy institute say yes.

Apple, Nike to tie iPod nanos into gym equipment

Leveraging a partnership that began two years ago, Apple and Nike said Tuesday they hope to again redefine the way people work out by bringing the Nike + iPod experience to gyms around the world beginning this summer. The shoe and iPod makers said they're actively working with major gym equipment manufacturers such as Life Fitness, Precor, Star Trac and Technogym to make their cardio equipment Nike + iPod compatible so health club members can easily track workouts on cardio equipment like treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes and stair climbers.

This decision by Apple to cut iPod Shuffle prices may help Apple meet shipment forecasts for all iPod models. Shaw Wu, American Technology Research analyst says that this was a development that very positive and due to the low December quarter sale output, this was perhaps needed and in the light of this price cut Apple would reach it's forecasted sales.

A textile made of nano fibers has been created by US researchers. This fiber harvests energy from movement. This development could lead to clothing which could power wearable electronic devices including the iPod. The principle on which the research is based is that of a self winding watch. "Wasted" energy from sound waves, human heart beats and vibrations could be scavenged by tiny nano-generators.
