To conserve battery use, your iPod may go into a power-saving mode after a period of inactivity. Depending on your iPod model and the duration of inactivity, your iPod will go into sleep, deep sleep, or hibernation mode.
iPod Sleep Mode
After a few minutes of inactivity, your iPod may go into sleep mode (the same as if you turn off your iPod by pressing and holding the Play/Pause button).
If you are having problems with your iPod, try these troubleshooting steps:
Make sure that your iPod is fully charged
Make sure the Hold switch is in the off position. If the Hold switch is in the locked position, you will see a lock symbol on the screen. Slide the Hold switch to the unlocked position and check the screen
Is the surface of your iPod smudged or scratched? Bring some new life to the appearance of your iPod with these cleaning tips.
Apple recommends the following steps to clean your iPod:
Unplug all of the iPod's cables and cords
Set the Hold switch to Hold
Wipe the iPod with a soft, damp, lint-free cloth. Avoid getting moisture in openings
Check the battery status of your iPod shuffle by pressing the button on the back and checking the color of the LED.
